When you click on the stack (dog pile, whatever the cards that are face down at the top left are called) it counts 1 to expose it.  Then if you play it down or over, it counts 1 more move.  (Also, I'm guessing your "42" is a typo, cause there are 52 cards in all)

So I think the minimum would be 24X2 + 28 = 76

Am I nuts?

Sorry, no idea how I got 78 moves The absolute minimum number of moves is not 42? Moving the pile of 24 cards plus playing up the 28 cards facing upwards and downwards.

Isn't it true that the absolute minimum number of moves is 76? So Marcsi's astonishing 78 must have only 2 moves that aren't either exposing a new card on the stack (the pile of 24 cards that are face down at the beginning) or playing up or over. Am I thinking right?
