When the K plays up and uncovers the 9, everything plays up automatically - is that how it finishes?

No switch. I followed your clues I believe, but it only got me to 127. I was moving the 10 over to the J, so I changed and moved the 19 on it. This changed the game for me and maybe I did something wrong in the following sequence of play. Q went to K, and 7 to 8 (6 on 7). I guess I'll have to play with it. I got the K up and uncovered the 9. Thanks for taking the time.

Not a switch. Play down to the Q which goes on the K. Do not bring down the 7, 8, 6, or 7 on the way down. Then on the way back up 7 to 8 6 to 7 8 to 9 and 7 to 8. Like magic, the puzzle falls together for 126 with K playing up.

dang..still one off.. doing the other stuff already. It's some obvious thing..that isn't obvious to me.

7 to 8 is also my vote for the "missing move". I think it is what Fizz hinted at. Also maybe Q to K so K can play up.
